How is the Tummy Tuck Procedure Performed?

Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, and the surgery takes approximately three to four hours to complete. As stated above, Dr. Hinojosa will tailor the procedure to your specific areas of concern; that said a full, or traditional, abdominoplasty typically involves incisions around the belly button and/or across the lower abdomen along the bikini line. After the incisions have been placed, Dr. Hinjosa will tighten the muscles and remove and redrape excess skin and tissue as needed before meticulously closing the incisions. In some cases, liposuction may also be included to remove excess fat and resculpt the midsection.

What is Tummy Tuck Recovery Like?

As everyone heals according to their own timeline, the recovery process for abdominoplasty can vary in length. That said, Dr. Hinojosa generally recommends patients take at least a week off from work to rest. You may experience swelling, bruising, or soreness, but these symptoms should fade in the weeks following surgery. You will likely be prescribed pain medication to help manage any post-surgical discomfort. It is important that you carefully follow all of Dr. Hinojosa’s aftercare instructions and attend your follow-up appointments as directed. This can help expedite the healing process and optimize your final results.

Will I Have Visible Tummy Tuck Scars?

As with any major cosmetic surgery, abdominoplasty can cause scarring.
